This album is the second part of a homage to Josef Albers. Dirk and I spent some days in the studio, improvising in a disciplined way with the ghost of Josef Albers watching us. Although the drum parts are essentially indeed based on a method, with colours interpreted as rhythmic meters, the idea was not to work methodically but to the contrary create music in an open improvised way and at the same time stay close to the nature of Josef Albers' work. Each day we spent in the studio was very different, resulting in hours of improvisations of which these pieces are a selection, a chapter in a continuing story.

Josef Albers (1888 - 1976) was born in Germany. He was a painter, designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker and poet, and member of the Bauhaus movement. He is most famous for the series, Homage to the Square. Hundreds of paintings make up this series, each painting consisting of either three or four squares of solid planes of color nested in one another.
